First Steps in eRepublik: Media
Fingerguns has asked me as a new player to give some thoughts on the training materials here, perhaps offer a few tweaks and ideas. I offer up a suggestion for a fourth powerpoint that might be useful to a few players: one focusing on the media aspects of the game. Everything from 'messages' to 'alerts' to 'newspapers' would be covered, and a few nods towards forum posting, #IRC, and listening/talking to blog radio.

Re: First Steps in eRepublik: Media
Coming up with some sort of schtick for your paper or a brand can really help you gain regular readers. It gives you some direction for pictures and catch phrases and things (if you choose to go that way).
However, nothing will serve you as well as writing frequent, high quality articles.
Bucephalus is a great example. He does world warfare reports. He's become very good at it and is really the only person doing it in the eUS right now. He's gaining in popularity because of it. He has a niche for his writing, he puts out regular articles and he's come up with something of a theme to include in each of his pieces.
My paper is mostly gimmicks. Fingerguns, fingerbanged, pew pew pew, zooey deschanel. I came up with it a long time ago and I've stuck with it and I got a Media Mogul Medal as a result. I have to cover a wide variety of content because of the jobs I take on, so my paper is rooted in ME as a personality.

Re: First Steps in eRepublik: Media
Okay, while I'm working on that stuff behind-the-scenes, let me highlight a contest Duncan Crowe is having, since it directly relates to "First Steps in eRepublik: Media."
This is Duncan's contest:
The Feds love newbs.
So, for those new writers with less than 5 articles and/or without newspapers, this is a contest aimed at you. We want to help you get situated and writing in the media module.
Basically, here is a topic for you to write about:
"Why did you join the Feds?"
Once you have written an article on this topic, please either post it here or in your newspaper and link it here! Winners will be chosen by a select panel of Fed. party leaders on d. 1960.
Prizes
1st - 10 gold + newspaper starting cost (if not already owned)
2nd - 8 gold + newspaper starting cost (if not already owned)
3rd - 6 gold + newspaper starting cost (if not already owned)
4th - 4 gold + newspaper starting cost (if not already owned)
Honorable Mention - 2 gold + newspaper starting cost (if not already owned)
So, even if 4 articles are submitted, you still have a chance at an awesome prize. So, start writing!!
-- Clint
Good luck!
If you don't have a newspaper or access to these forums yet, that's okay. We can always get you straightened out with the technical stuff, but don't let that stop you from enjoying yourself. Write the article anyway. Just message Duncan Crown in-game.
