Well perhaps there thinking that vista sucked and had they just skipped it they would have had success. So they realized that after success skip ahead oh wait windows 8.1 was not very successful... ah so there skipping the successful one.. ;)

From the rumors I have heard they are going to revamp 8.1 to 9 for a free upgrade before releasing 10. But this is only speculation.

Yeah, Windows 10 looks better than Windows 8 for desktops, for sure. I don't own any of the Microsoft tablets, so I can't comment on how it worked for tablet/mobile.

I downloaded and installed the technical review and I do have to say it is very stable. I like how the actual footprint of the OS has shrunk along with integrating the start menu back into the OS. I have installed and supported Surface OS and Desktops with Windows 8.1 . I normally tell people this:

Windows ME | Windows Vista | Windows 8 = Suck
